The Luck of the Irish is here in March, but in Social Studies, we had the students recognize that much of what they have done comes about because of their hard work, not because they got lucky. The students recorded an accomplishment that came about because of their hard work, and we added it to our March Rainbow. Keep up the good work, everyone.

Eagles Lose a Tough One!

Tuesday afternoon, Wahlquist hosted the Snowcrest Skyhawks in a matchup for the top spot in the league. The Eagles entered the game undefeated at 6–0, while Snowcrest came in close behind with a 5–1 record.

Snowcrest came out strong in the opening quarter, building early momentum and outscoring the Eagles 15–7. Wahlquist responded in the second quarter with a more aggressive effort, putting up 11 points, but the Skyhawks maintained control and took a 29–18 lead into halftime.

The Eagles came out of the locker room energized in the third quarter. Wahlquist had a great third quarter offensively and tightened up defensively, outscoring Snowcrest 19–6 in the period to erase the deficit and take a narrow 37–35 lead heading into the final quarter. In the fourth, however, the Skyhawks regained control, edging the Eagles 8–3 in the period. Wahlquist had two quality opportunities in the closing moments to tie the game, but both shots missed the mark.

Despite the loss, the Eagles continue to focus on their season goals, which are still within reach. Wahlquist will look to bounce back on Friday when they travel to face T.H. Bell.

Hadlee Earl continued her outstanding play, recording another double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Auria Wood added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals, while Eden Shupe contributed 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Maely Grange finished with 3 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. Jhi Nishikawa added 2 points along with 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal.

On Friday, the Wahlquist Eagles made the short trip across town for a league showdown with the Orion Titans—a game that looked like a comfortable win on paper for the unbeaten Eagles. But inside the gym, the Titans made it clear early that records don’t win games.

Wahlquist entered the contest sitting atop the league standings at 5–0, while Orion came in fighting from near the bottom at 1–4. Yet for anyone watching Friday, the numbers quickly became meaningless as the Titans turned the matchup into a gritty defensive battle.

Points were hard to find in the opening quarter. The Eagles generated good looks but struggled to convert, while Orion’s defense applied steady pressure and forced tough shots. When the first quarter buzzer sounded, the Titans held a 9-8 advantage.

The defensive tone continued in the second quarter. Orion’s pressure kept Wahlquist uncomfortable on offense, limiting the Eagles’ scoring opportunities. Wahlquist managed just seven points in the period, and the Titans carried a 19–15 lead into halftime, leaving the undefeated Eagles searching for answers.

Whatever was said in the Wahlquist locker room during the break worked.

The Eagles came out in the third quarter with renewed energy and intensity, delivering their most dominant stretch of the night. Behind suffocating defense and key plays from Hadlee Earl, Auria Wood, and Eden Shupe, Wahlquist shut Orion out completely in the quarter. The Eagles rattled off a 12–0 run to seize control of the game and flip the scoreboard in their favor. By the end of the third period, Wahlquist had turned a halftime deficit into a 28–19 lead.

But the Titans refused to go quietly.

Orion continued battling in the final quarter, outscoring the Eagles 8–7 and keeping the pressure on until the final moments. Still, Wahlquist’s defense remained steady, and the Eagles took care of the basketball down the stretch to secure the victory.

When the final buzzer sounded, Wahlquist escaped with a hard-fought 35–27 win, improving its record to a perfect 6–0 on the season.

Hadlee Earl delivered a remarkable performance and earned Player of the Game honors with a triple-double: 11 points, 14 rebounds, and an eye-popping 10 blocked shots. Auria Wood also had a huge night, pouring in 15 points while adding six rebounds and five steals. Eden Shupe controlled the glass with 10 rebounds to go along with three points, while Maely Grange and Reese Terry each chipped in three points to round out the scoring.

The Eagles won’t have long to celebrate. Wahlquist returns home Tuesday, March 10, to host a tough Snowcrest squad that enters the matchup at 5–1. With the regular season entering the home stretch, the game carries major postseason implications and could go a long way in shaping the league race.

In the kind of matchup that might tempt a team to look past its opponent, the Wahlquist Eagles made sure that would not happen Tuesday afternoon.
Entering the contest at 4–0, Wahlquist squared off against cross-town rival Mountain View, still searching for its first win at 0–4. The Eagles erased any thoughts of an "easy win" early with great team defense, depth, and disciplined execution.
Wahlquist wasted no time setting the tone. Four different starters found the scoring column in the opening quarter, combining for 18 points while the Eagles’ defense suffocated the Mavericks to just five. The balanced attack made it clear: this would be a team effort.
The second quarter brought more of the same—and then some.
The Eagles turned up the defensive pressure, holding Mountain View to just three points in the frame. On the other end, Wahlquist poured in 20 more, stretching the halftime advantage to a commanding 38–8 lead. Crisp ball movement, relentless rebounding, and opportunistic steals fueled a surge that effectively put the game out of reach before the break.
Any hopes of a second-half rally were quickly dashed. The Eagles opened the third quarter on a 9–0 run, extending the lead to 47–8 by the end of the period. With the outcome well in hand, the Wahlquist bench took valuable minutes in the fourth, adding two more points to cap off a decisive 49–16 victory.
Auria Wood led all scorers with 17 points and added four rebounds in a great offensive performance. Player of the Game honors went to Hadlee Earl, who recorded the contest’s only double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Earl stuffed the stat sheet, adding two assists, four steals, and two blocks in a dominant all-around showing.
Eden Shupe chipped in 10 points and four rebounds, while Reese Terry added four points and three assists. Emery Hancey knocked down a three-pointer, and Abbi Nelson and Aspen Allen each contributed a basket to round out the scoring.
With the win, Wahlquist improves to 5–0 and maintains its spot atop the league standings. Close behind are South, Snowcrest, and Roy, each sitting at 4–1 and keeping the pressure on.
The Eagles will have little time to relax. They travel Friday to face Orion (0–4) before key matchups loom against Snowcrest on March 10 and Roy on March 17—games that could carry major postseason implications.
If Tuesday night was any indication, however, Wahlquist has no intention of overlooking anyone.

On Friday, the Wahlquist Eagles continued their undefeated season in dominant fashion, defeating the North Ogden Knights 47–11.
North Ogden struck first, scoring the opening points of the game and briefly taking the lead. That advantage didn’t last long. The Eagles quickly found their rhythm and responded with a 20-point surge to close out the first quarter.
Eden Shupe led the charge early, pouring in 10 first-quarter points. Auria Wood and Hadlee Earl each added 4 points, while Maely Grange chipped in 2 to give Wahlquist firm control after one quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same. The Eagles’ defense tightened, limiting North Ogden to just 3 points while the offense continued to roll. Wahlquist outscored the Knights 19–3 in the quarter, building a commanding 39–5 halftime lead.
Balanced scoring highlighted the second period. Shupe added 4 points, Maely Grange scored 3, and Kinsley Skinner contributed 4. Maci Paget and Abbi Nelson each scored 2, and Hadlee Earl added another 2 to round out the half.
With the game well in hand, Wahlquist continued to execute in the third quarter. The starters played halfway through the period before the bench took over for the remainder of the game. The Eagles added 8 more points in the third, extending the lead to 47–7 by the end of the quarter. Auria Wood scored 4, Maely Grange added 2, and Eden Shupe finished her night with 2 more points.
North Ogden edged Wahlquist 4–0 in the fourth quarter, but the outcome was never in doubt. The Eagles secured the 47–11 victory, maintaining their undefeated record.
Wahlquist’s balanced scoring, defensive intensity, and contributions from both starters and reserves proved to be the difference in another impressive performance. Wahlqusit will host the Mountain View Mavericks on Tuesday.

In a game with major district implications, the Wahlquist Eagles rose to the occasion. Both Wahlquist and the South Ogden Spartans entered the matchup undefeated at 2–0, with the winner gaining a clear inside track to the No. 1 seed in the district tournament.

Wahlquist set the tone early, building a 14–8 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles stretched the advantage to eight points before South Ogden battled back, trimming the margin to 20–16 by halftime. The third quarter was tightly contested, with Wahlquist holding a slim 29–27 edge heading into the final period.

The Eagles delivered when it mattered most. Fueled by strong offensive execution, Wahlquist closed the game on a decisive 14–4 run, highlighted by a clutch three-pointer from Eden Shupe. The final score: 43–31.

Defense was the defining factor. Eden Shupe anchored a standout defensive effort, shutting down South Ogden’s leading scorer and helping hold the Spartans to a season-low 31 points.

Player of the Game – Eden Shupe: 14 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Auria Wood added 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Hadlee Earl dominated the glass with an impressive 18 rebounds to go along with 4 points. Maely Grange contributed 4 points and 3 rebounds, and Abbi Nelson chipped in 2 points and 3 rebounds.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 3–0 on the season. They remain at home on Friday at 3:00 p.m. to face North (0–3). Come out and support the Eagles!

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, my dad, who lives there, some family members, and I delivered Wahlquist's National Junior Honor Society's Holiday Cards made during a service activity to the assisted living center, where we got names and room numbers to personalize them. The residents were so happy and pleased with the cards, kindness, and generosity. They said to tell the WJH NJHS all thank you, that you made their Holidays brighter, and they appreciated and loved the cards! The link is to a sample of photos of the residents who got the cards.

Hello,

Our school Garden Club pulled the annuals from our garden beds, then covered the beds with leaves to prepare for winter. The leaves give pollinators like bumble bees a place to overwinter. The leaves also add organic matter to be turned into the soil in the spring. We enjoyed working in our school garden.

Have a great Thanksgiving,

Dear Wahlquist ELA Team,
I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work happening in your department who are leading the district in ALL three grade levels with your CommonLit data. WOW! This is an outstanding achievement and a direct reflection of your collaboration, focus, and commitment to your students.

The data clearly shows that teams who work together—analyzing early assessment results, setting focused and specific goals, and following through with intention—see powerful gains in student proficiency. Your success is a perfect example of how thoughtful teamwork turns data into growth.

This kind of excellence doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes a team that trusts, collaborates, and supports one another—and that’s exactly what you’ve demonstrated. It also speaks volumes about the supportive leadership at Wahlquist Junior High, where administrators foster a culture that values both collaboration and academic growth.

I’ve included the fun “selfie” we took to celebrate—with Crackerjacks in hand—because you truly are hitting it outta the ballpark!

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for setting such a strong example for the district.
